It’s Tough Duty Today…

I don’t feel like writing today. How’s that for a hook? Seriously, I’m only doing this because I feel I have to. It’s a sunny, spring day – why on earth do I want to be here, tied to a computer? I don’t have an excuse!

So where is this going to take us? I suppose almost anywhere other than current world events would be a good start, wouldn’t you say? Full of a lot of questions, aren’t I? Wow – there’s another one!

Okay, this stream of (un)consciousness should probably stop. I need to get a grip and sink my teeth into something. I did more or less lead with the weather – let’s go with that.

How has it been where you live? For us Northwesterners it’s been what I would call a fairly typical spring. Occasional late snow flurries in the mountains, a bit cooler down here in the lowlands with early morning temps in the upper 30s and low 40s, highs generally in the mid-fifties. Geesh, I’m starting to sound like a weatherman.

It’s been a bit breezy, which plays havoc with our need to enjoy some outdoor time in something less than a few layers and a parka. I mean, come on, just about everyone here wants to show some skin, knock off some of that fish-belly white complexion from places other than just their face. Show some arm, kick out some leg – let’s go!

As is normal around these parts, those days this time of year are few and far between. Old man winter is till battling with lady spring, wanting to hang on, never seeming fit to give us more than two, maybe three days in a row of sun and temps higher than 70. Eventually he’ll give in as that old battle-ax of spring will insist upon dominating her time of year.

Who can blame her – everybody needs equal time. Just wait until she has to give way to the dog days of summer. Hah! That’ll be fun to watch. Around here she usually puts up a good fight against the old dog until July 5th. Yeah, that’s right – summer never really begins here until after the fourth of July.

I’m tellin’ ya, we know how to celebrate a national holiday – rain, clouds, cool temperatures. That’s how you kick off a party!

No, you say? Well, I guess we’re stuck then. It’s kinda hard to fight with Mother Nature. She’s going to do what she wants, and that’s that. You know how women are…

But, today is one of those glorious spring days! And this weekend is supposed to be in the 70s. Holy cow! Hope the weatherman doesn’t change his mind like he usually does.

Now you know why I’m having such a time sitting here writing. I want to get out there, feel the sun on my face, go for a drive, play a little golf, go for a stroll with my honey, play on the beach, go for a bike ride. Yeah, all in one day, ‘cuz that’s usually all we get.

Actually, I’ll get two of those things done, if I’m lucky. The mundane parts of life don’t stop calling just because the sun comes out. Wish they did. But now my doctor’s calling. What the hell does she want?!

I’m gonna take a hike. She can, too!

Enjoy the sun, wherever you are.
